I am fortunate enough to live in a townhouse here that is about 20 yards away from a man-made lake. The interesting thing about our complex and our lake is that they were designed in the 70's to be eco-friendly (for their time). They didn't really accomplish that with the interior designs, but the grounds and common areas are an unusual and interesting exercise in environmental awareness.

There may be a new and plausible theory surrounding the mysterious brown pelican deaths here in California.
Brown pelicans are dropping like flies, but there are no answers as to why. Here in Ventura County, we're all intuitively convinced that it's an environmental issue, but no one has been able to pinpoint the cause.

One of the final acts of the Bush Administration was to open our coastlines for oil drilling and exploration. Despite the limits imposed by the Congress, this stretch of coastline, a haven for rare shore birds, the California Brown Pelican, and other wildlife could be threatened by offshore drilling.
