LEED certified coffee roasting plant

If you get your morning brew from Starbuck’s, your coffee just got a little bit greener. The Sandy Run, S.C., coffee roasting plant is now a LEED for New Construction Silver certified building. Projects that score between 33 and 38 points qualify for LEED-NC Silver certification.
“A significant amount – 20 percent – of building materials were from recycled content and over 75 percent of construction waste was recycled. The facility features efficient, state-of-the-art lighting and water fixtures, drought tolerant landscape and a portion of the power used for operations will be green power supplied by wind energy.” Source: Starbuck’s
This is not Starbuck’s first LEED certification. The company has been committed to sustainable building as part of its Shared Planet program. In 2006, a Hillsboro, Ore., Starbuck’s location received LEED for Commercial Interiors Gold certification.
The company’s headquarters in Seattle is also LEED certified. The building received LEED for Existing Buildings Gold certification in September 2007. At the time of the building’s certification, it was the oldest building in the nation to receive LEED-EB certification.
