SUNY’s green building conference

I attended my first green building conference and expo this past weekend. While I only attended the expo portion, I was able to speak with several conference attendees.  Conferences are a great way to both learn about the latest in green building news but also network with others in the industry.  The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry together with the U.S. Green Building Council’s New York Upstate Chapter are hosting the 7th Annual Green Building Conference on March 19 & 20, 2009.

 

Conference speakers
Jason F. McLennan, CEO of the Seattle-based Cascadia Green Building Council and founding president of Ecotone Publishing is the conference’s plenary speaker.  McLennan’s speech begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20.

 

Susan S. Szenasy, editor in Chief of Metropolis Magazine, will present the afternoon keynote session, also on Friday, March 20.  Szenasy will be speaking on the topic: “In good company: architects work to green the built environment at every scale.”

 

Thursday, March 19 features two different pre-conference workshops:  LEED Core Concepts & Strategies and Fundamentals of Erosion and Sediment Control.  The day concludes with a reception with conference attendees, presenters and exhibitors in attendance.

 

Conference attendees can choose from breakout sessions in three different tracks on Friday, March 20.  The three tracks are Green Housing, Building Science and Energy.  A few of the topics covered include Indoor Air Quality, Design, Installation and Monitoring of Small Wind Systems, and Code Barriers to Green Construction.
