Pennsylvania American Water is committed to its environmental stewardship program.  The company is a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence and awarded $26,000 in environmental grants in 2008.  The water company has opened the 2009 grant program with funds of up to $10,000 per project available.

“To qualify, a proposed project must be:

  • Located within Pennsylvania American Water's service area; and
  • Completed between June 1, 2009, and November 1, 2009; and
  • New or innovative community initiative or serve as significant expansion to an existing program.
Projects will be judged based on criteria that include clarity of project goals and projected impact, strength of collaboration with other community and/or municipal organizations, and evidence that the project will provide sustainable environmental results after the Pennsylvania American Water's funding ends."  Source: American Water

Although the 2009 program just opened, there isn’t much time for interested organizations to apply.  Applications must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2009.  An application may be obtained from the Pennsylvania American Water website.
