How to Build Solar Panels

When you learn how to build a solar panel at home, the first thing you'll need to do is to find a quality kit or manual that will show you the exact steps to follow to build a panel. It's not hard and you don't need any special skills or tools, just a good manual, a few supplies, a willing attitude, and some extra time.

It generally takes a few days for a beginner to make their first panel. After that, if you want to make more, the process can go more quickly since you have a much better idea of what you're doing and the exact steps to follow.

Having a few solar panels can save you hundreds, maybe even thousands depending on how many panels you have, on your electric bills. For most people, though, one or two panels won't free them completely from their utility company. If you want to get completely free, you'll need many solar panels and / or combine solar panels with wind turbines or some other renewable energy sources.

You won't want to buy panels either. A store-bought solar panel, can cost you upwards of $30,000 depending on the size. For most people, that is just not practical. Even if you could afford the cost, how many panels could you actually have and how long would it take you to recoup that investment from the money you save on your utility bills? For most people it would take 20 to 30 years to recoup that much of an up front cost. It's not worth it.

Since it only costs a few hundred dollars to build your own solar panel, most people could afford to build several solar panels. Several panels can make a big impact on your utility costs and with such a small up-front cost you can see the benefits much more quickly, sometimes as quickly as two or three months down the road.

Once you have your manual, and you've decided how many panels you want and where you plan on mounting them you will need to get busy. Here are a few of the things you'll need for the construction of your panels (your manual will provide you with a more detailed list, this is just an idea):

1. Solar cells
2. Acrylic sheet
3. A hand saw, a hammer, nails, drill, screwdriver
4. Cork board or pegboard
5. Primer, paint, a paintbrush, wood glue
6. Soldering-gun
7. Silicon caulk
8. Copper electrical wiring
9. Wire nuts
10. Electrical plugs
11. Plexiglas and a Plexiglas cutting tool

Being able to have more control of who gets your money is a great feeling. If you're willing to invest a little time and effort and learn how to build DIY solar panels at home you can save considerable amounts of money on your utility bills. You can also help lessen your impact on the planet. So what could be better, you get to go green and save money with a little bit of time and some effort. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I think the greatest thing about your guide here is that you're very forward with the tools and supplies that will be required to build solar panels. Right now, my fascination is of RV Solar Panels, and I'm wondering if it will require the same materials and efforts to that of building and installing residential solar panels, or if it's more practical to simply purchase RV solar panels from a retailer.
