MNN - Mother Nature Network

Sunday was the opening day for our farmer's market. One of my favorite vendors wasn't there. I hope that's just because of the earliness in our growing season. I was able to get some local honey, some new potatoes and some tomatoes. I paid a premium for the tomatoes--the other vendor that had tomatoes grows them in a greenhouse far away. I often penny pinch at the market, but more and more I feel like I should skip over the big booths that bring in produce from all over.
 
What's your rule of thumb when it comes to farmer's market produce purchases? Local? Organic? Price?
