"Local, Green, Independent" is Revolutionary
By now, most people have seen this ignorant rant from a CNBC talking head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEZB4taSEoA.
In this video, a CNBC talking head leads a bunch of Wall Street brokers and presumably his wealthy viewers in a tirade against the working class and the poor. The CNBC class have spent the past several years reducing the average wage, reducing benefits, outsourcing overseas for work and product, rolling back labor laws and deregulating finance, and now they refuse to bail out the people they helped put in a dire financial condition.
Want to screw them back? I do.
That's why I use the local shop locator at IndieBound.
Buying stuff locally from independent stores is a great way to do that. The every day decisions we make decide whether Wall Street and CNBC run our nation, or we do. Buying coffee from Dunkin Donuts, for example, results in about $57 going to various global companies, including the sourcing, shipping, administration and other providers. A percentage of the money goes right to Wall Street.
When you visit the local coffee shop, on the other hand, only $32 leaves the community, and that money is more likely to go to regional producers and co-op programs. Fewer of those dollars wind up in the hands of some jerk cheering on the destruction of the working class on CNBC.
That's why IndieBound isn't like many of the other local store finders. The others will still list Dunkin Donuts and Staples if they are in your region. But that isn't the point of local shopping, of course. It's about seizing power from those who currently have it.
But principles take time and effort. You don't always know how good the service or the product is. Sometimes there just isn't a local office supplies store, pharmacy or coffee shop in your neighborhood anymore. IndieBound can help a great deal, but local shopping does take time, and there will be trial and error.
Do you think the Wall Street geniuses don't put a heavy time investment into crushing you?
Visit IndieBound. Fight back.
