What's your deal? I really hope that your kidding because that's just not right. Animals have the same right that we have to be living on this earth. AND THEY AREN'T DESTROYING THE PLANET LIKE WE ARE. Do you know nothing of food webs? We destroy these and it starts a chain reaction. Eventually most things will die and we will starve. Think about that why don't you.

Because 2 attacks happened in like 30 years, you're saying they hunt humans? May be they got tired of inhumane hunters smashing the head their offspring to get white fur .... Can't blame them!

They are just giving examples. If an animal hunts down a human for food, then it's capable of doing that. Since, in the animal kingdom, they don't just murder and they're all pretty much the same, you can be assured that if one does it, they'd all most likely do it if given the same circumstances.

This article is just warning us that they have, in fact, hunted down humans before. So that's what we know if we are ever in an area where they live.

Leopard Seals are pretty cool and I'm pretty sure I would love to be one. I mean, they got a chilled out life and not many people would bother an animal with three to four inch canine teeth that can rip you a new one. O_o But still, I would rather be in the water with these guys. You won't find me diving into a Great White Shark tank or a Alligator/Crocodile tank.

No one clubs leopard seals at any life stage. They live in Antarctica - the ANTarctic - no people live there. I think you mean fur seals off the coast of Canada and other places that are not the South Pole. (aside - it still does occur and can be a complex issue involving tradition / animal rights).

All we have to do is respect nature and realize that all species are territorial no matter how kind, cute or mellow they/we may be. Before venturing into an animals domain; learn about them and respect the way they live. Adventure is awesome. But also be smart. To be human and curious is one of our greatest attributes. Live like each day is your last.

If animals are 'deadly' it is merely a defence mechanism. In the wild, anything that moves is a threat. So if an animal sees a human in their territory they would put up their defences and attack or hunt the humans if they are hungry. Humans are stupid and too curious. Even the whole 'swimming with dolphins' thing gets on my nerves. They are wild animals people!! Of course they can attack you at any given moment if hungry or threatened.6

Humans cant be called stupid for being too curious you ignorant little dipshlt. Everyone knows you're gonna get attacked by an animal if they see you in their territory or if they are starving. You're pointing out the obvious, little miss know it all. Swimming with the dolphins? Clearly you don't know how to live life if you don't want to take the risk of going out to venture the world. Call me stupid but I dream of big adventures. I won't be scared. " To die is an awfully big adventure " =) By.... More

I'm going to assume that the person talking about making sure you have leopard seal deterrent when you bring your children with you to the Antarctic banks was not all there at the time he or she wrote that. I'm on the seal's side of this one...plus I think "Leapord Seal Eating Pregnant Antarctic Tourist" would be a really awesome youtube video.

Did you hear about the guy that kept giving a eel lil chunks of sausage or hot dog? It got hungry one day and he did not feed it fast enough and it bit off his thumb which resembled what he had been feeding it. For all we know the people that got attacked may have been doing something simmilar, but we may never know. It is not always the animals fault this is very true sometimes we people tend to bring it onto ourselves unintentionally.

i dont think that its the animals fault sometimes. the animal may be giving signs that say that its getting angry or irritated and warning people and animals. but humans may be to slow to catch the warning. leopard seals may not kill for fun and humans being killed by the animals may be due to the fact that it was really hungry. i mean humans can be eaten by other animals. its not their fault they were built to eat others. humans on the other hand think that thats wrong.

It's alright for us to attack and eat animals, but yet when they attack/eat humans we think it's wrong. It's called NATURE people. Everything does what it has to in order to survive. You don't want an animal to attack you, stay away from it and leave it alone.

Understand that there are many types of Seals, and yes the Leopard seal is mean. Unlike its revatives this seal like to kill some times even for fun.Not all seal are this way most are very calm. He will kill humans where he is from its hard to get food so any thing will do.Including you.

Your friendly everyday housecat likes to kil for fun. The average outdoor domestic cat will kill more species (be it bugs or birds or anything else it can get it's claws into) than a lion per day. Should I be running and hiding in a closet veverytime I see my cat?

First, leopard seals are not the top of the food chain in Antarctic waters; that prize goes to orcas which regularly kill and eat leopard seals.Second, leopard seals don't "hunt people". The death to which the article refers was most likely an accident spurred on by unusual ice conditions that left leopard seals particularly hungry that year. A human in a dry suit looks like a seal and the leopard seal likely simply misIDed the snorkeler. Leopard seals are beautiful and highly curious creatures.... More

I am certain that all wild animals are cute and perfectly harmless when humans are far far away. Unfortunately any interaction between humans and animals can end in tragedy. Constantly telling the listening public that leopard seals are beautiful and highly curious will only lead to more attempts by unqualified thrill seekers to interact with the seals in search of a great anecdote. Stay far away from any animal you encounter in the wild. If you have children with you be absolutely certain you.... More

Leopard seal

The leopard seal is at the top of the food chain in its home in the Antarctic, and this is one predator you don't want to swim with. It is bold, powerful and curious, and it has been known to hunt people, although it usually targets penguins. In 1985, Scottish explorer Gareth Wood was bitten twice on the leg when a leopard seal tried to drag him off the ice and into the sea, and in 2003 a leopard seal dragged snorkeling biologist Kirsty Brown underwater to her death.
