Don't get me wrong, this is a good picture, it gives you a really good look at the animal, but they suck in taking pictures that really show the size of the animal. I would like to see how big this thing is as well. I mean it can take down a moose. Well that concept cannot be truly appreciated if we can't see it's true size clearly in the picture.

I think it probably stands on all fours at thigh high at the top of it's head. However, it's probably wider and as strong as a bear would be at that size.

Actually, a large wolverine is about knee high, 2 or 2 1/2 feet wide, around 4 feet long (not couting the tail), and weighs around 70 pounds...and unless a grizzly is starving, it'll walk away from a kill rather than tangle with a wolverine. The wolverine will only eat so much and the bear just waits until they're done.

That would be the coolest pet ever! Assuming of course that you could find one as a baby and train it not to EAT you! lol But imagine having something that aggressive being protective of you and your territory...hehehe like "sharks with fricken laser beams on their heads!"

These things are BORN pissed at the world. I saw one about 120 yards away once...luckily he didn't see me! In a fair wind I could still hear him grumbling to himself at that distance! and he seemed to be having a good day!

I saw one harrasing a bear (probably over territory), didn't notice me, just let them go on their way. An hour later a half mile away- same bear running from psycho wolverine again (hopefully not still)

lullabies'! 03/19/2010 11:54 AM

Im not trying to sound conceited or anything, but if that thing run after me, i think can easily give it a burning kick into its face... geez, when i get startled i usually manifest immeasurable quick reflexes, you know adrenalin rush.. plus it is not as formidable as the others, you know small size.. (i dont intend to underestimate, just to share my reaction) :)

Grats, you are now the proud winner of Darwin Award 2010...

I will pay to see you "trying" to kick a wolverine in its face. I will even pay double to see your face/emotion/reaction AFTER you "trying" to kick a wolverine in its face.

Seriously, can someone really this stupid??

That would be crazy - think of a pirranah, on steroids and is a land mammal that would have no problem running you down and mawing you despite a painful kick to the face. Your best bet is to keep it at bay with a big branch (not a single beating stick)

Imagine a large dog with the reflexes and speed of a cat, and the aggressiveness of a cornered, wounded bear. Imagine that that creature survives on its own, killing deer and such and fighting wolves for food. Now imagine some silly human standing in front of it, threatening to "give it a burning kick" in the face. I don't know about you, but the image of a silly little disemboweled human with part of one leg missing comes to mind in that scenario. Also, that silly little human is pumping.... More

omg.really? 05/01/2010 21:09 PM

A wolverine is a weasel. it has much faster reflexes than u anyday! Not to mention the claws, teeth, strength, and down right aggression. that thing would tear you to shreds before you could turn to run!

i know you say you don't mean to underestimate, but these are very dangerous animals. They are just as dangerous as a bear or wolf, and are typically less predictable.

never heard that part about the moose before. they're primarily scavengers. they would rather eat carrion than have to hunt and kill their prey. but they have been known to be excellent ambush hunters. usually from trees as they're excellent climbers, jump on their target and let their jaws do the rest. for size vs. nasty these little guys are right up there.

It has been known to kill prey as large as moose, although most typically when these are weakened by winter starvation or caught in deep snow.

Arent these mammals extinct?

  • |

Guest 05/04/2010 02:32 AM

They're 'extinct' in most of the lower 48, but they're certainly not fully extinct, and in fact its recently been discovered that they're back in Colorado and probably several other mountain states. Most that are found in the US are in Alaska...where they CAN take down moose, either by dropping on them or by taking them out in deep snow.

I grew up in the NW part of Montana, and I assure you, these critters are certainly not extinct. I can honestly say I know without a doubt that they're extremely dangerous though.

You may be thinking about a weasel, or a ferret (a type of weasel). That makes sense, because wolverines are a type of weasel.

Wolverine

This is one weasel you don't want to mess with. Its aggressive nature is widely known, thanks to the popularity of the X-Men comics and movies. Armed with powerful jaws, sharp claws and a thick hide, the wolverine can take down prey as large as a moose and steal food from bears and wolves.
