Risk of extinctionEndemic species are geographically constrained to one particular place on the planet. They often live on islands, though humanity has pushed more than a handful of continent-based animals to an endemic state through hunting and habitat loss. Endemic species are more likely to form in biologically isolated areas such as islands and large bodies of water. It is sad about all of these creatures. I'm just surprised that the Clouded Leopard is not on the list. Or the new sub-species of Clouded Leopard that they just discovered.
A Giant Tortoise called George belonging to the Island of Pinta (Galapagos), is the last of his species. Only one specimen remained after their hunting by men. You can see it in the Galapagos National Park in Puerto Ayora.
