Doesn't this finally show people that wild animals don't belong in cages? It's not natural, and inhumane.

Evelyn and Jim

Los Angeles Zoo residents Evelyn (shown here) and Jim are the Bonnie and Clyde of the gorilla world. Over the years, this pair has pulled off at least four or five escape attempts — each taking advantage of design flaws in their enclosure. Evelyn is the mastermind and prefers to employ finesse in her escapes, while Jim is apparently the muscle.

During one of Evelyn's escapes, “a vine ... had somehow gotten within her reach,” recalled Michael Dee, the zoo's curator. “She got a running jump and managed to get over.”

A typical Jim escape, on the other hand, is best represented by the time he ripped a door off its hinges and squeezed through the opening.

The couple has used teamwork, too. During one of their most impressive escapes, Evelyn had Jim lift her up high enough to climb over the wall. According to the zoo's report, she spent her half hour of freedom fascinated by the giraffes and elephants. No doubt she had quite the story to tell to Jim when she got back!
