More useful inventions make for more useless people. Is advancement really that necessary when all it does is killed wildlife? Humans aren't "number one" as much as many people like to think.

Earth is a rock, a ball in space seething fire within, bathed in hard radiation without. It cares not a whit for life.. a Mother Earth is just another religion, sorry guys. It is very disturbing to see that our country is high on the list for animal and plant species extinction. But more disturbing is the tone of most of the comments I am seeing here. While we all stand by bickering over whose to blame and debating religious beliefs, the losses will continue. Nature or mother nature (fro you silly ones) will sit in awe of how GOD will judge the earth. When that judgement comes it will not be over global warming or environmental causes, it will be over human attitudes and moral beliefs/behavior.

Hey "Think" please back up your claims – late night televangelist armageddon specials don't count as credible evidence that God is "angry". It would have been nice to have the data hot linked so that we could click through and find out the exact animal etc that was heading in that direction along with the area and a support foundation to contribute to. Maybe some one has brought that up i a previous post.

Just wondering about the data:
Scientists tell us that South American Jungles (like Ecuador) are filled with hundreds of thousands of "yet to be discovered plant species" and possible thousands of undiscovered animal species. If this is true; how in the world do they know that the species they claim are endangered are not flourishinfg in those "yet to be explored" areas? Sorry guys but logic tells me some of these numbers are politically (shock value) motivated. We all need to realize.... More

As I read the comments above; I am struck by the viceral hate towards the human race. My guess is most who commented have computers, Ipods, TVs, cars, expensive clothes and shoes, and feel entitled to all these things and more. It is spelled "visceral," not "viceral." And you should learn the proper way to use semicolons. They are not interchangeable with commas. I'm just going to ignore all the other spelling mistakes and shallow arguments.

And as a matter of fact, i DO have computers. Well actually i have TWO laptops because i'm greedy like that. But i do step out an enjoy nature often. Living by the beach is great. Okay, what I think: we are responsible for a lot of the extinctions, but not all of them. We're learning about natural selection and adaptions and Earth History in school, and whatever animal is more suited for it's enviorment will go extinct. True, we're doing a lot to them, but A LOT of them can adapt. Humans do need to do something, but I'd like all of you complainers to ask youselves what you are doing. I agree with jenny here. Stop complaining and start doing. But, what about the OTHER animals that CANNOT adapt? We may learn information in school but that does not necessarily mean THAT learned knowledge will be useful in the future. Like animals we too adapt as well. No matter how we all see things. Patriotism or not. Ironic Redundancy will ALWAYS be a part of life. i don't think it's about patriotism. it is more like expressing ones animalistic urges to exhibit the behavior we do. We all are in fact members of the mammal family anyway. So why add Patriotism? it's just plain human stupidity if you ask me.

If patriotism is doing what is morally right, how do you account for all the terrible things that have been done in the name of patriotism? Including, for that matter, environmental destruction, for the sake of ones country? Global problems require thinking beyond your national borders, because the problems themselves certainly won't respect your national borders.

Interesting that most of the countries listed are Third World ones with their own economic problems, except, right up at No 2 is the most wasteful, self indulgent nation on Earth-the good ol' gas-guzzling US of A! any one here know how many cubes of oil have been sucked out of the earth in the last 80 years? off shores, spills, run off , maybe we were never meant to pull fossil fuels out of the ground 3000 4000 meters below. the last 100 years have been the worst years for poor mother nature and at this rate humans will be so dependent on these fossil fuels it will only lead to inevitable wars between United Nations. so then good old mother nature can burry us all and use us for fertilizer to clean.... It is really unfortunate to see this list... and it is still Growing...
Just because we have a sophisticated brain…We took the Right to wipe out Every Single Species and may finally be ourselves.
I think that is inevitable.
But, I Believe this planet will reborn again hopefully without a Species like us.
