Pike the polar bear frolics in zoo's manmade snow [Photos]

Not quite the North Pole, but close enough
Pike, a 30-year-old polar bear, relaxes atop a pile of manmade snow inside his enclosure on Nov. 15 at the San Francisco Zoo in California.
 
Zoo staff celebrated the longevity of Pike and his 32-year-old roommate Ulu by dumping 10 tons of freshly blown snow and several fishy ice block treats into their habitat.

Celebrating San Francisco's elderly polar bears
A very happy Pike rolls around in the manmade snow inside his enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo.
 
Given that the typical life expectancy of a wild polar bear is 15 years, Pike and Ulu are some of the oldest bears residing in an accredited U.S. zoo.

It should be a controlled habitat that maintains the best polar bear conditions all the time. Nice of them, but it shouldn't just be a treat.
