ASPCA to pay circus for false abuse allegations
After a ruling declaring that the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is not guilty of animal cruelty, the American Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals has been ordered to pay more than $9 million for the false allegations of abuse.

This is a settlement. No one was ordered to pay anything.

And the courts did _not_ rule on whether Ringling Brothers is cruel to animals. It ruled that the plaintiffs did not have standing to sue under the ESA.

You shouldn't treat anything that a show like Today states as credible. It's an entertainment show, not a news program.
