Six months saved
Maya, an endangered jaguar cub, was born in October 2008 and celebrates her six-month anniversary at the Palm Beach Zoo in Florida. Thousands watched her for more than two months on a cub cam. And more than 2,000 people also submitted entries in a "Name the Cub" contest last year. The winning name was announced on Jan. 5 — the same day Maya made her first public appearance. David Lipps, an emergency room nurse at St. Lucie Medical Center, won the naming contest. Maya has become one of the most popular animals on exhibit at the zoo.
