I think its wise to try to grow your own seeds,
and to stockpile seeds for the future..
Its hard work being self sufficient on seeds, and as soon you start a garden, you should start preparing for that.. just a tip.
(think beans beans beans, and green leaves.. to be able to use vegetable proteins you need dark green leaves or vegetables such as broccoli and spinnage, or greencole Brassica oleracea Sabellica, i dont know the english name, but its a great tip for every garden,,.... More

Yikes! I appreciate the humor but seriously if society really did break down, it would be an opportunity to work together in real communities as opposed to every person or family for themselves. The selfish "me-first" mindset is incredibly damaging to society and the Earth.

Yes, I'd agree with all your items, however I'd replace the biodiesel brewing... with getting a good bicycle & learning to maintain it.
Regarding your food stockpile photo - it is misleading and shows little forethought. All you show is convenience novelty foods... nothing that will last anyone for a duration... and laced with nothing but HFCS.
Folks... sometimes you have good ideas... but they come off half-baked... you need to have more integrity in what you publish... that.... More

Perhaps the" idea" is to get people thinking. Maybe its for people that are not prepared for anything out of the norm. Clearly you are prepared! So, instead of dismissing the blog use it to your benefit share it with your friends that aren't prepared and don't see the point.

I think all of the ways you listed are already socially accepted here in the south, except, perhaps, the 15 foot fence, which would raise some eyebrows. Our family already hunts, has a backyard garden, is handy with tools, and we are seriously contemplating getting off of the energy grid (for $ value, mostly). It just feels good to be more independent, and to remember where your food/water/energy comes from! The current scare just adds impetus to the already popular notion of urban.... More

1) Build a stockpile of food

Having a stockpile of food is a great first step to take to protect your food security (in addition to planting a garden, learning to hunt and building a greenhouse). Stocking up on your favorites also means you'll be eating Klondike bars and Skittles years after the factories shut down for sheer lack of ingredients and energy. You should have enough food on hand to feed you and your family for at least three months. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have more, too, since food will be a great asset in bartering.
