HOT ENOUGH FOR YA? WNYW Fox 5's Mike Woods gives the forecast from Maui. (Photo: WNYW)
We’re not exactly sure how this happened but television weather reporters seem to be a genetically blessed breed of people boasting naturally telegenic personalities, criminally white teeth and salon-perfect hair. Of course, good DNA (aided by teeth bleaching kits, gym memberships and plenty of self-tanner) isn’t the only prerequisite for on-air weather forecasting as it’s a dedicated profession that requires serious educational and professional training along with years of dues-paying. But this certainly does help provided that their careers frequently entail relaying atmospherically bad news. It doesn’t hurt to be lusted after while telling the 10 o’clock news-watching masses that it’s going to rain for a week straight, right? A little eye candy makes that bitter, weather-related pill a bit easier to swallow, we suppose.
To celebrate this pulse-raising phenomenon, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to round up 15 exceptionally attractive weather forecasters, both male and female, from around the country. Is there a meteorologist we missed that you find yourself frequently tuning in to watch? Tell us all about him or her — and their most lust-worthy attributes — in the comments section.
Station: The Weather Channel
Status: Like a fine wine, this beefy Weather Channel vet (he celebrated 25 years at the station in 2011) keeps on getting better (looking) with age. Although Cantore has some questionable taste in music (Jimmy Buffet, Hootie and the Blowfish, Nickelback) we’re willing to forgive him. Almost. And to answer the big question, the storm-chasing, shiny-headed “Mike Wallace of meteorology” is divorced with two teenage children.
Station: WJW Fox 8, Cleveland
Status: Although not a certified meteorologist (she’s working on it), that didn’t stop this former pageant queen (Miss Missouri USA 2006!) from forecasting the weather in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., for more than three years. Now a morning news co-anchor at a Fox affiliate in Cleveland, we’re counting down the days until this brunette beauty once again steps in front of the blue screen. An avid marathon runner and reader, Capel also enjoys “watching football with her husband.” Ugh.
Station: Fox News
Status: Hate to rain on your parade (and your meteorologist-related fantasies) fellas, but “Janice Dean, the Weather Machine” is happily married — the Canadian native got hitched to hubby Sean Newman, a New York City firefighter, in 2007 — and is the mother of two young sons.
Station: WSVN 7, Miami/Fort Lauderdale
Status: This smokin’ San Francisco 49ers cheerleader-turned-certified meteorologist has a knack for raising pulses across various markets including Sacramento, Phoenix and now Miami where she mesmerizes as the morning weather diva at WSVN 7. Having once appeared on “The Bachelor,” we thought that perhaps she was still on a quest to find love. Alas, according to a recent post on her Facebook page, she’s snagged herself one lucky fiancé.
Status: Although Puerto Rican export Guerrido bounced around Miami’s Spanish-speaking television and radio circuit before landing her current gig as a meteorologist with Univision, from 2008 to 2011 the former “Mira Quien Baila!” contestant had a steady in the form of reggaeton performer Don Omar. So to answer your question: Yes, it would appear that she’s back on the market.
Station: CBS Los Angeles/KCAL 9
Status: Although the current relationship status of this much-crushed-on 34-year-old Michigan-born beauty is unknown, in 2009 Johnson was spotted around L.A. with mercurial Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan leading to speculation that the two were an item.
Station: WPVI, Philadelphia
Status: Not much is known about the relationship status of this Boston-born, Philly-based meteorologist and fitness junkie (his interests include “weight lifting, running, biking, swimming, and making every day count”) but we do know this much: If Joseph were to do his seven-day forecast sans shirt, ratings at WPVI would go through the roof.
Station: NBC4 Washington
Status: With his mouth full of pearly whites and thick head of shiny weatherman hair, this classically handsome, Emmy-winning meteorologist based in D.C. (previously, he forecasted the weather in both Florida and Philadelphia) is the kind of guy you’d want to bring home to your mother. Alas, he’s married with two kids.
Station: WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids
Status: This Midwestern weather hunk with warm blue eyes and a jaw so square that it could probably break a cinderblock just screams masculinity with interests that include weightlifting, muscle cars and making lusty Lower Michigan weather watchers weak at the knees. According to Kirkwood’s Facebook page — he has a lot of friends and we can understand why — he’s married with an anniversary of Sept. 13, 1997.
Station: NBC Los Angeles
Status: Crowned “America’s Sexiest Newscaster” by the discerning readers of FHM in a 2006 online poll, this curvaceous Philippines-born meteorologist (and recent momma) has officially been off the market since 2010 when she married her beau, Ryan Nuveman.
Status: As the most lusted after man to talk about the weather on CNN from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. (our apologies to Reynolds Wolf) and the only meteorologist to appear in a V Man fashion spread as far as we know, you may have spent a few sleepless nights wondering about the eligibility of this self-proclaimed “storm junkie, space geek, science guy, and outdoor enthusiast.” Not to dash your dreams or anything, but this incredibly good-looking guy is betrothed.
Station: WNYW Fox 5, New York City
Status: Nevermind Nicolini’s relationship deets, let’s examine her CV: Before her most recent gig as entertainment reporter for WNYW (although not a certified meteorologist, she previously served as a traffic and weather reporter at PIX-11), this Emmy-nominated former swimsuit model appeared in the reality TV show “Married in America” and in 2001, Playboy magazine. And oh yeah, because of the latter she was forced to relinquish her title of Miss Long Island 2002. (In this video, Nicolini's offbeat weather attire is only surpassed by the surprise celebrity on the set.)
Station: WGNO 26, New Orleans
Status: Although the eligibility of this perky blond meteorologist/Chihuahua owner/sailing enthusiast based in the Big Easy isn’t public knowledge, this quote gives us hope: “I'm not the kind of person who likes to stay in often. I prefer to be ‘out and about’ in the community, surrounded by people. Whether it's trying different restaurants, local hotspots, or festivals — I enjoy getting out there and meeting and learning about people.”
Station: KARE 11, Minneapolis-St. Paul
Status: As the Twin Cities’ frequently shirtless resident weather stud, the romantic life of this native Minnesotan (with a name like that how could he not be?) is the source of constant speculation. With hobbies and interests like travel, ski jumping, the music of Coldplay and, last but not least, topless cookery, we think Sundgaard is quite the catch.
Station: WNYW Fox 5, New York City
Status: More ripped personal trainer than Willard Scott, this amicable and beefy weather hunk from Sacramento (and former “The Price is Right” contestant) has been heating up television screens in the Big Apple since 2001. Woods’ current relationship status may be unknown, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get to know him better and take a look-see around his bachelor pad, right? (Check out this video of his unusual forecast delivery.)
