Tulips peek out of several inches of snow in Somerset, Pa., on April 23 after a snowstorm pounded high-lying areas of the Northeast.

Despite a mild winter and a warm spring, a late April snow storm swept through the region, leaving a foot of snow in some places and thousands of people without power.
