Volunteers Miguel Pichardo (left) and John Allen help a friend search for personal belongings in a pile of wreckage in Forney, Texas, on April 4, a day after several late-afternoon tornadoes inflicted serious damage on several towns within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
 
Winds were estimated to have reached 130-150 miles per hour — enough to rip roofs off houses and toss around tractor-trailers like toy cars.

Although there were no casualties, 200 homes were destroyed and 650 were seriously damaged by the multiple tornadoes, according to a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross.

After preliminary on-the-ground inspection, meteorologists are estimating that the stronger twisters of the storm rank at about an EF-2 on the Fujita scale, which measures the intensity of tornadoes based on the extent of damage that is inflicted on vegetation and man-made structures.
