The heavy rain and subsequent flooding has caused major transportation disruptions for road and rail lines linking London with Leeds, York and Newcastle. The only casualty that has been reported was a woman who was killed in London's Kew Gardens by a tree branch that broke off in the rain on Sept. 23.
