The production tax credit (PTC), an integral part of the growing wind industry in our nation, is scheduled to expire at the end of 2012. Without an extension, the industry’s future is in question.
According to Dr. Harold Prior, executive director of the Iowa Wind Energy Association, there are about 3,000 jobs in the state connected to wind energy operation, maintenance and manufacturing. These jobs are at risk should the PTC be allowed to expire. President Barack Obama is asking Congress to extend the credit until 2016, but Congress has not yet acted on the issue.
