I haven't been super excited about the potential for really small turbines in the past, but the size of the blades on this family's turbine puts out more than enough for their needs. Wind doesn't make sense for every family, but those who live in a clear, windy zone and who can finance the upfront cost of a good system will see their investment pay off in less than a decade and can have all the hot showers they want without feeling any eco-guilt.

I like small wind turbines. I have even built a few - both a traditional small wind turbine:

However, I have to say that taking long HOT showers, via electricity from a wind turbine, is not a great idea. Want more hot water? Use a solar thermal water heater. They are more than twice as efficient as making electricity and then heating water with in. Here's a couple of
