Sen. James Inhofe: Gas and oil don't pollute

Oklahoma Senator and climate change creationist James Inhofe manages to out-do himself with his latest assertion that oil and gas don't pollute.

You gotta give James Inhofe credit- he makes his hatred for the environment clear to anyone listening. Grist recently gave him props for at least being openly hostile to environmentally sound policy.

In this video he takes his crazy extremist views to a whole new level by almost flippantly mentioning that gas and oil don't pollute. Climate Progress has the transcript of the juice bit (via Treehugger) of Mr. Inhofe's speech:
People complain that we are buying — importing from the Middle East — oil and gas. And then they find out that we have it all right here. We don’t have to do that. If their argument there is “Well, we don’t want to use oil and gas because we think it pollutes” — which it doesn’t — but if that’s their argument, then why are we willing to import it from Saudi Arabia and other countries in the Middle East?
Oh. My. Science. You can't argue with that, how to you try to convince someone that the sky is blue while they are standing in the middle of a field on a cloudless summer day? James Inhofe will believe whatever he wants to believe (and whatever his corporate backers wish him to think), reality be damned. But, at least it's on all on the table with him.

I think he's referring to the actual refining and extraction processes, not combustion engines in general. As someone who has worked in an oil refinery, in Oklahoma, I can say without a doubt that they are far from the biggest pollutants. The EPA is breathing down their back 24/7/365, they can't afford to be fined. Everyone sees the "white smoke" and thinks the worst, it's just steam. Sure, H2S and CO2 are emitted as well, but your car emits those too.

It's baffling how people.... More
