A lot of food staples aren't being grown in favor of corn, soy and palm for biofuels. This is known as unintended concequences. The fact is finite supply (food) verses infinite demand (fuel) equals escalating food prices.
OK - so what biofuel is made from rice? Yes biofuels made from corn, soya and wheat will have an impact on the price of these particular commodities but there are many other factors which are having a more significant impact on food costs. That said I am all in favour for the drive towards second generation sustainable fuels.
