Removing lead from gas
In 1973, studies linked lead to physical and mental problems in children and companies started phasing out leaded gas when laws were passed to restrict its use. Since Jan. 1, 1996, it's been illegal to sell leaded gasoline for on-road vehicles thanks to a provision in the Clean Air Act.
