Chuck Norris may have spent a lifetime working his way to an eighth-degree black belt in taekwondo, but Vladimir Putin has received his overnight.
And not only that, but the Russian president’s black belt outranks Norris’ by a full degree.
The newly minted Saseong (grand master) was bestowed with the honorary certificate and uniform while on a visit to South Korea. Choue Chung-won, president of the World Taekwondo Federation, did the honors at a ceremony in Seoul.
The federation officials said they awarded Putin the ninth-degree black belt title in recognition of his efforts to foster sports in Russia. And while this black belt is merely symbolic, it should be noted that Putin — a former KGB officer for 16 years known for his macho stunts like 'rassling with Siberian tigers and tranquilizing polar bears — does hold a real black belt in judo.
