Flaming star nebulaOn Dec. 14, NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) telescope celebrated the one-year anniversary of its launch into space. Since then, the WISE telescope has captured hundreds of millions of asteroids, stars, galaxies and other celestial bodies.
Here are four new dazzling images from the scope plus six images taken over the past year.
This WISE image depicts the flaming star nebula, which is about 1,500 light-years from the Auriga constellation. The nebula gets its name from the star located at its center, the AE Aurigae, which appears to be blazing.

LOL... to those who think they can travel through the universe and see these "colorful" images. WISE - Infrared - not visible light. These images were "color-shifted" or pseudo colors assigned for the image to be seen.
Just like old black & white movies given color. Here the captured infrared spectrum is "translated" to the visible light spectrum, thus results, a "colorful" image for everyone to 'see'. LOL PeaceV
Beauty still exists even when it can't be seen directly with a human eye.
These are false color images of infrared structure. There is nothing that actually looks like these pictures. Yes, these images are useful to astronomers, and WISE is a great mission. But the vivid pictures are NASA marketing fluff.
"Representational color" is a better term than "false color". The people who made these images are not doing it for "marketing". They simply want to share the beauty of the universe with fellow humanity. Why so cynical?
THE VAST BEYOND, HOW AMAZING !
WOW..how beautiful..WISE doing an awesome job.. Thx for all your great work NASA.
Love these Pictures and would love to travel around in space and Explore the Universe ; we are all so fortunate to see now-
with the WISE telescope :)
GOD your creation is beautiful, Is Heaven like this?
SO BEAUTIFUL
this made my morning, so beautiful and hey folks.... I don't think we are alone. Myself, I am hopefully waiting the news to finally come to all
PEACE
just curious why so many focus on the horrible things happening in the world and not on the beautiful. Breath taking! Keep up the excellent work WISE!
It sure is beautiful. No question about it. BUT there are just as many beautiful and mysterious things here bon our own planet. Under the sea. I wish people would Explore our own planet THEN expand to th beuties of the Solara system. That is my opinion any way. No question about the beauties in outers space though !!.
