Modern man may have problems on Earth, but in low-Earth orbit, we have achieved a spirit of cooperation perhaps unprecedented in human history. Operated by the five space agencies of the planet – including NASA, the European Space Agency, the Russian Federal Space Agency, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and the Canadian Space Agency – the International Space Station promotes human and robotic exploration of space. As many as 16 nations are involved in experiments being carried out aboard this massive laboratory, the largest artificial satellite to ever orbit the Earth.
