Who is the nutcase who keeps writing "Irene, we love you, etc.?" I'll bet you were just absolutely wild about Katrina, weren't you? Of course it did rid us of quite a number of Welfare hangers on . . . . .

You do know, when you see a satellite picture of the east coast, you're seeing it "from space". This is just a lower level altitude which makes it look more extreme (hard to say that when hurricanes are quite extreme).

Say hello to Irene

As the East Coast braces for the first hurricane of the 2011 season, it's a good opportunity to look at these amazing storms from a different perspective. NASA offers just the right viewpoint. Astronaut Ron Garan snapped this image of Hurricane Irene from the International Space Station as the storm passed over the Caribbean on Aug. 22, 2011.
