Miss Baker
Seen here is Miss Baker the squirrel monkey, who rode a medium-range ballistic missile into space in 1959. She returned home safely from her flight into space and has been widely (and incorrectly) credited with being the first living creature to achieve that feat.
When she died of kidney failure in 1984, about 300 people attended her funeral.
