Auroras are created when solar winds crash into the Earth's atmosphere at the poles, creating a spectacular light show. This is what auroras look like from outer space. According to NASA, this is the view that astronauts see from the space shuttle Discovery. In this photo, a Coronal Mass Ejection from the Sun is colliding with our magnetosphere.
