Stars bursting to life in the chaotic Carina Nebula

These two images of the Carina Nebula demonstrate the Hubble Space Telescope's impressive new ability to observe celestial bodies both in visible and in infared light. The pillar that is seen rising up, which is located 7,500 light-years away, actually resides in the southern constellation Carina.
