This galaxy is dubbed a fossil galaxy because it was probably caused by many galaxies colliding with each other until there was only a large fuzzy elliptical galaxy left. Scientists have found many oddities when studying NGC 1132. For one, the galaxy sits inside a ring of dark matter that could potentially surrounds hundreds of galaxies. Also, there's an X-ray glow that stretches 10 times beyond the radius of visible light seen in this image.
