Galaxy M101
This spiral galaxy was discovered in 1781 and was the last object entered in the catalog of famous French astronomer, Charles Messier. It is classified as a ‘peculiar galaxy’ because although it appears spiral and symmetrical, it really is not. Its core is not centered and one arm has a very heavy concentration of hydrogen gas.
