New estimate for alien Earths: 2 billion in our galaxy alone

It wou would take about 100,000 years in a light speed propeled space ship, for "someone" to cross the Milky Way. Being radio waves a form of light, it would take the same amount of time just to cross the milky way.
Another thing is that the Galaxy is Huge, really Huge, and having the stroke of luck to contact a habitational planet would be astronomic.

The "Universe" is so quiet because 1) so far, who's listening? 2) of the very, very few who ARE listening, who's to say the attempt (if any) will be by radio waves? 3) xenophobic is not a concept strictly connected to human beings. 4) the Milky Way GALAXY (not Universe) is approximately 250 000 light years cross... that's diameter. which means any signal would needs couple of years to get here from just about anywhere in our neighborhood, let alone our very own Galaxy. 5) an alien life form.... No. Evolution is not a "repeating pattern." I'm not sure where you got that idea, but in all seriousness, forget it. It will only make it more difficult to understand. There are countless ways to survive and reproduce, and no strategy is the best. Which strategies work depends on everything around you. For example, it's not very effective to be a hunter if all around you are lions and tigers and bears. Unless you can be better than those animals, it's a safer bet to eat.... More

Think about it like this: 1 out of 37 is really 2.7%. 1 out of 70 is roughly 1.4%.
The author is trying to say that somewhere between 1.4% and 2.7% of the sunlike stars might have an alien Earth.
Re write the article just the way you want it...

We have things so messed up down here.., if I was an alien and came for a visit, I would leave and NEVER come back.
Maybe they have already been here and kept looking......
we can't even save our own planet and have leaders in the US who don't even 'believe' in science....
so it is doubtful that any 'galactic alliance' would ever make contact with dumb humans sh*I( ing in our own fishbowl.
