Father maintains tree in drought for his Marine son
It's not hard to see the extra effort one father of a Marine on deployment put into keeping a tree alive for his son's safe return home.

On the day that the brother of Redditor ecaward
signed up for the Marines, his dad planted a tree so that they would have a place to hang a ribbon when he serves overseas. They live in the southern U.S. and have been faithfully watering the tree in the face of a scorching drought.
They have dubbed the spot where the tree lives "The Oasis".
I wish ecaward's brother the safest of travels.
