Shiny suds: What's in your shower cleaner?

When an army of animated little cleansing bubbles invades your bathroom, they don't always just clean up and leave.

Check out this clever (and kinda creepy) commercial.

The site at the end of the video, peopleagainstdirty.com, directs you to a page where you can send a note to your Congressional representatives in support of the Household Product Labeling Acts- HR 3057 in the House and S.1697 in the Senate (introduced by my favorite Senator Mr. Al Franken of Minnesota.

The ad and campaign were put together by the people at Method personal and homecare products, whose slogan also happens to be "Method creates products for people against dirty. Nonetheless, household products SHOULD come with clear, easy to read and understand ingredient labeling, so I appreciate their use of their marketing budget to drive good political action.

Epic Fail, Method

Horrible.
This ad trivializes sexual assault, harassment, and the like. It is inevitably triggering for many survivors of these kinds of attacks. It implies that if a woman makes the wrong "choice" of using chemical-laden cleaners, she will be punished and demeaned, and deserve it. This is called victim-blaming, folks.
Thank god this was taken down from their website.
Epic Fail.

good intentions, terrible, terrible delivery

This video made my stomach turn. Comparing nasty household chemicals to violating, humiliating leering minimizes the very real experiences of women. As much as I agree with the general idea, the ad was degrading to the very people most likely to buy these products.

No Bass Coal

There are all kinds of leftover chemicals in our environment. Look at the toxic waste produced by the mining and burning of coal. Big Coal has been working hard to cover up the facts. My colleagues -- Clair Jones of Utah Chapter Sierra Club, and Emily Fehrenbacher of Alaska , as well as many dedicated others, have been working diligently to get the NoBassCoal Campaign off the ground here in Utah . We held our first event, The NoBassCoal “Campaign Kick-off and Press Conference” on.... More
