Southeastern Jordan

This photo, taken on May 17, 2001, shows wadis across the desert landscape of Jordan. As the USGS describes them, a wadi is a "gulley or streambed that typically remains dry except after drenching, seasonal rains." Jordan is a kingdom on the East Bank of the River Jordan. Its population is estimated at just more than 6 million people. It neighbors include Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, the West Bank and Israel.
