Gulf Coast

The Gulf Coast includes the coastal areas of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. This photo captures the sand dunes of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge in Alabama. These waters are known for their lush inlets, bays and lagoons. The United States’ worst environmental disaster to date occurred on the Gulf Coast when British Petroleum’s Deepwater Horizon oil rig spilled as much as 2 million gallons a day for several months into the Gulf of Mexico. Click here to learn more about a government task force that has been created to help restore the Gulf. Organizations such as the National Wildlife Federation are still taking donations to help rehabilitate the area.
