It's a travesty to leave Utah off this list. Take your pick: Park City, Alta, Moab, Lake Powell, Bear Lake...the list goes on and on

I would argue that everything has balance, and that if you're really concerned about your carbon footprint, there are so many ways to immediately reduce it, right now. (Carpool, take public transportation, ride your bike, walk, prioritize and organize shopping trips so you don't have to dash out over and over, etc etc etc.) Then, when you take these life-changing trips to see majestic examples of nature, you don't have to feel like you've overstretched your footprint.

I personally think traveling is VERY enjoyable as well as the people I may meet. I love getting out in nature as well as going to a new city to meet creative characters.

No, you're just waking up to what a pointless endeavor it always was. For a long time Vewwy Special Boomers could tell themselves that they were all unique for trekking to Bali or skiing across China or unicycling to Bolivia. Now everybody's doing it, and suddenly it's "no more fun."

It was NEVER fun. It was NEVER what you thought it was. You just needed novelty and distraction, you projected that need onto other places, and now you're growing up and finding out that everything you.... More

Get packing

Mark Twain once wrote, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." An old Moorish proverb proclaims that "He who does not travel does not know the value of men," while Henry Miller wrote, "One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things."

Travel is good for the soul. Visiting new places and meeting new people opens us up to new ideas and makes us more complete individuals. Plus traveling is just fun! Who doesn't like a chance to get away from the daily grind for a little vacay R&R?

The U.S. is a big country full of landscapes as diverse as the Alaskan tundra and the swampy Florida Keys, as different as the Arizona desert and the old growth forests of California. It's full of beautiful places to see that could rightly be placed on anyone’s bucket list — including Yosemite National Park, pictured. The following spots are some of my favorites and make up my list of seven places every greenie should see. (Text: Shea Gunther)
