Benthic comb jellyThis new species (Abyssobenthic ctenophore) of comb jelly, found at a staggering depth of 7,217 meters within the Ryukyu trench off the coast of Japan, is the deepest living known ctenophore. Before its discovery, most scientists didn't believe it was possible for any similar life form to exist at that depth.
