I love this picture although I don't think it's one of the scariest I've seen!! You need to come to Ohio and get some pictures!!

I'm rarely disappointed in MNN content, however this article did it. Beautiful pictures, horrible title and superficial content. Anyone in touch with Nature in the very least, wouldn't have used the term "Creepiest" to describe these wonderful specimens of our natural world. Wow. Are you currently hiring any freelance writers? I'd be interested in helping with reputable content.

There's being green and then there is defending a tree from being called creepy like a tween defends Justin Bieber from being called gay. And those trees are creepy, just like the majority of commenters. For their sake, we'll call them "interesting" just like their mothers called them when they asked why they weren't pretty.

I wouldn't consider them creepy, but being a forester and currently enrolled in a forestry college in the middle of the Adirondacks i have a different perspective on trees in general. However they are great pictures of some really cool looking trees, thanks.

okay... one: not one of these trees suggested chainsaw massacres to me. they were all unique and fascinating and beautiful. the one in the outer banks could fuel a toni morrison novel, though.
two: are y'all snowed in or something? some of you seem mighty cranky. have a cup of coffee and put your feet up! (and yes, i'm snowed in, too!)

It's an artistic feat with great imagination. I find tree shapes, especially trunks or leafless trees, fantastic sculpture to enjoy and fire the imagination.
I tend to see dancing figures in most trees, especially olive trees; the expressions range through all the emotions, as does everything living in nature.

I think probably those who have spent their entire lives in an urban environment are not as comfortable in nature. I don't think it is ill intentioned I just think city folk sometimes lose sight of where they come from. Regardless, these are great pictures for all of us to see.

Yes. Us city-folk have never been presented with that which you call a 'tree'.

I believe what she was trying to say was that it can be easy to forget where you came from living in the city. As in nature, not trees. How often have you been in miles of absolutely natural woods? Going to guess never. Glad you've seen a tree though, it must've been so natural outside you're apartment complex or in a park. Beautiful display of 'knowledge'

We all love trees, that's a given. To point out the fact that some trees look creepy is not a crime. Please, folks, lighten up, and stop the pissing contest.

I am a big horror film junkie, and these trees are the best trees I've seen. I really loved the first one,but it looked to me like the dead coming back to life. I really enjoyed them all. For all of you who sent in these pictures,YOU ROCK!!

I cannot believe this article would be posted on a website called the 'Mother Nature Network'. To point trees out as being 'creepy' is to associate them with fear. Yes - they may look strange and eerie, but singling out any aspect of nature as being creepy (especially trees) is adding idealogical fuel to the fire of ecosystem destruction.

@ Katherine Butler

In case you were paying attention to this comment - all personal feelings set aside the photos you picked were quite beautiful. I also respect your freedom to express yourself as an artist / writer in referring to them as 'creepy'.

What exactly is it about my comment that makes you want to destroy ecosystems? I ask out of respect and will gladly remove it if it has that effect on many people.

...for your self-riteousness. No but seriously, ecosystems aren't destroyed out of fear or articles about creepy tress. They are destroyed out of necessity and ignorance, among other things.

This is seriously the most disturbing, morbid piece of article I just read... especially about trees. Seriously, each one basically said "Dead Body Here". I thought the apple tree was more enchanting than creepy. Way to go "Mother Nature Network".

It's true, some trees are just downright erie. It's cool to see what other trees look like in other countries. Great work!

Into the mist

Trees are majestic and can represent all that nature has to offer. But sometimes, they look like they’re going to kill you. The location of these trees is unknown, but the blue mist certainly add an air of alternative time or dimension. It's exactly the kind of scene from which a chain saw killer could emerge. (How's that tree outside your window looking?)
