African elephants

The African elephant, the largest land mammal on Earth, faces a near-constant loss of habitat to humans and climate change. Poaching is another pressure on the species; despite an international ruling in 1989 banning the trade of ivory, the illegal market is thriving in some countries. To help them, various groups have created protected areas and linked habatats, creating corridors that minimize interaction between elephants and humans.
