This false-color image, taken by The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA’s Terra spacecraft, shows Haiti on Jan. 21, 2010 — just nine days after a magnitude-7.0 earthquake devastated the region.

Vegetation is shown in red, while newly exposed soil is white. The white areas are possible landslides, according to NASA.
