never re-discovered anything

We never re-discovered anything. Things can only be discovered once. Why you may ask. It is Simple that some one didn't look hard enough before saying it was gone, no more, extinct.
Now there is always arguments about what religion is right. People have their own opinions. Same say Mormons some say Islamic other say tribal and there's a million + more. Which one could be right.
I would like to leave you with this question.
How did people get here on this rock we call earth?More

PSEUDO RELIGIOUS ALLIANCE WITH PHALLIC WORSHIP

The previous poster seemed to be upset, in regard to religions and their so-called incomprehensible beliefs. Also disgustingly, referring to the earth as a rock, and as to its origin. Further, with manifestations of personality suppression, as one lost in complete confidence, of the world around him. This is a sad situation. Actually, hundreds of honest thinking individuals are harboring this malady, of indifference in every day of life. Investigating the concreteness of what seems to be a.... More

The bible is grossly overrated

Get with the program. It's the 21st Century and you still believe that garbage?

Relevance?

If you have an axe to grind about the Bible, why don't you take it somewhere where it is relevant, rather than attacking an idiomatic expression from the English language, in a site where people are discussing--of all things--rediscovered species. Seriously, take your anti-religious sentiment somewhere where someone gives a damn.

Lazarus Species

In the grand scheme of all things and all those who think that they are smarter and better than others and seem to know exactly how many of a given species exist and where they are, try to find a pen when you have to quickly write down information from a telephone call! The Earth is a big place, there is no possible way to know every creatures status. Unfortunately, publishing a story like this will probably hasten their eventual extinction as humans will invaritively invade their fragile.... More

PUPPETS

Science ONLY tells us things we WANT to hear and make up the rest they arent sure of. They think that we are a bunch of puppets and believe everything they tell us because they think we are peons under their feet. But what about the cure for cancer that was discovered in 1984? MMMMM guaranteed they wont tell us,and as you can see,, they didnt. Guess government stepped in and maybe THREATENED them?? You decide,,,

Or maybe...

Its just an idiotic conspiracy theory and it doesn't exist? There can't be a "cure for cancer" since every type of cancer is different from the next, you would need dozens of different "cures."

Cure for Cancer

Enter your comments here In response to the comment on the ridiculousness of a possible cure for cancer not being found because of the different forms of cancer. Do you not think that they all stem from one source within the DNA structure of our cells themselves. The DNA structure is different to a point within each type of cell, but the cure for all of these cancers is to unlock the main sequence that corrupts the sequence into cancer cells themselves. And YES I do believe that there is a cure.... More

I love it

This is a miraculous turn of events, i only hope i get the chance to observe creatures like these in my lifetime!
i'm currently studying to be a Practical Conservationist as, after all, it is written in the Communist Manifesto (Karl Marx+Engel) that social change can only be achieved by activism when referring to the downfall of Capitalism and the inevitable rise of the proletariat.
For this reason i'd like to state my affection for Captain Planet and all the Planeteers out there,.... More

IN response to WACOS

In response to your statement that those of us who do not believe in the bible are WACOS. I have had many discussions with theologians on the ramifications of events in the bible and I have come up with in my mind what the bible is and is not. This is from my point of view and no one elses. The bible is nothing more than a giant story book of tales and fables designed to scare small children and people who require a sense of belief. Do you honestly think that a diety named GOD, Yahwe, Jehova,.... More

No sorry you are the waco

the bible was started over 400 years after the death of jesus,by various people who although able to write had no concept of where we were in the universe,or how things worked or any science information.Heaven was ...up there somewhere. The stars were just things that shone up in heaven, and that the earth was the centre. This is the 21 century,no one with any sense thinks that the bible is anything other than an old history book, full of miths.God exists only in your mind, wishfull thinking.Its.... Classic Scientific Experiments

Enter your comments here
Somewhere in this article and the comments, I notice the word "regenerated", referring to the creatures featured.
Over 20 years ago in college, we read and discussed some classic scientific experiments such as spontaneous regeneration. Scientists proved hundreds of years ago that fly larva did not 'miraculously" appear on rotting meat. A fly needed to lay the egg first.
Also, hasn't the Hubbel telescope proven that the Universe isn't billions and.... More

We are so efficacious, as scientists!

Extinction seems an imperfect designation; yet these discoveries are hardly compensation to the millions of deforested acres in the Amazon, the Sahara, etc. with the attendant losses therein.

hello. survivability from the precipice of extinction is curious science, and significant in abandoning the Environmental Protection Agency; which does much damage.

So that man is without excuse...

This just shows how much belief you can put in someone who says something is "believed to be extinct" for 11 or 65 million years. Our oldest records are a few thousand years (usually of passages of Hebrew scriptures), and carbon dating is not good over a few hundred thousand without making big assumptions--assumptions like, "The ratio of C12/C14 is constant," which has been proven untrue. Also, there is a big difference between these amazing critters and Lazarus: Lazarus ACTUALLY died, whereas.... More

Know your sciene before you try to make a scientific argument.

Your understanding of radiocarbon dating is woefully incomplete - enough information to do some damage, but not enough to make an accurate argument. Radiocarbon dating is not used on fossils older than 60,000, though we typically only have higher confidence in dates younger than around 20,000 years. Radiocarbon's half-life is 5730 years, and so there isn't a measurable quantity in older samples. With tree-rings, we have good confidence in our ability to calibrate radiocarbon to calendar years,.... More

Get a life

Once again science is confused with certainty by the religiously deluded. Certainty exists only in your binary little head. Science is more than willing to be completely upended by one of those little facts - no problem, no orthodoxy, no heresy. In fact natural system revel in imprecision - makes life more interesting.

flexibility in thought

I agree that imprecision makes life more interesting. Have you considered a little imprecision in your harsh judgement of religious people? You seem terribly bound to that particular view. (Not all religious people reject the scientific method, but most would find your comments insulting)

They WERE there ... that is the point of the story ... The black-footed ferret was 'always' there ... it was just in such low numbers under someone discovered that they were on their way back ... Veryy rarely do we get 'do-overs' with nature.

They haven't been re-discovered. They were always there. Same thing with Columbus 'discovering' olden civilizations of people who had already built up major cities.

Rediscovered species

They're called "Lazarus species" — creatures that have disappeared, sometimes for millions of years, only to miraculously be rediscovered again in modern times. Just as Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus in the Gospel of John, so these species manage to survive. Their rediscoveries are a bewildering reminder that when given a chance, life finds a way to survive. Here's a short list of 13 animals long-feared extinct that, in fact, have been rediscovered. (Text: Bryan Nelson)
