How the heck can you tell if earth worms are extinct? For all we know they can be 15 to hundreds of feet deep in so many parts of the world. I love the look of this worm reminds me of Johnny and Edgar Winter.

I'm pretty sure the gov. dumps their waste in the Western Utah Desert... I grew up there ;) I heard something a while back about a deal that was going to bring more toxic waste to the desert...

I have seen one of those they aren't big and I go to EWU. Go Eagles. But the Government does not store toxic waste here, I would know.

I saw a worm once back in the mid to late 80's that was probably about a foot or foot and a half in a big puddle on the sidewalk. I don't remember it being white though. But maybe it was and I just couldn't tell because I didn't look close enough. This may have been in Norwich, Connecticut, Cleveland, Tennessee or Haverhill, Massachusetts. I was on my way to school, and for some reason decided not stop to investigate the specimen, probably because I figured I would see another one that.... More

TIme to dispel a big myth.... 3ft long!!! To quote the article in the Idaho Statesman recently... "
While they had been thought to grow to 3 feet long, the adult worm measured about 10 or 12 inches fully extended, while the juvenile was 6 or 7 inches." The link is below....while a FOOT long worm is big...it ain't no 3ft!

Really people, stop thinking things are so gross simply cause it's a giant worm. These things help decompost all the crap in the ground so we can keep growing veggies and whatnot. Saying something should be extinct simply cuz it's not the prettiest thing around is a rather shallow thing to say. Grow up. It's not like you've ever seen one in person anyway, or ever will, so let them live their endangered life without all your insults.

While I inherited a creepy feeling from seeing worms from my mom I completely agree with what you said. In reality humans are the only species who seemingly doesn't belong here. If all the animals went extinct we would all die within a few months but if all the humans died the animals would flourish. It's a very close minded and sad view to say that because they aren't cute they should just die, I suppose the same could be said for Steve Buscemi Vs. the Delicious Jared Padalecki but I won't go.... So because we don't like how it looks it should become extinct? What kind of reasoning is that? Not to mention the image looks to be of a dead one, they look more like normal worms in life.

"Worms of the earth, rise in numbers
A silent night brings them upon us
Rising from the soil to torment the living
Torment the living

Gentlemen, our faith is wounded
And yes, we are wounded too
They’ve come out from the swamp
But we, we stand on both legs

They will roll over and over and over again
And another lonely pacifist lying in the sun
There is no ground control... MAYDAY!

Breathe not a word of this
Quiet,.... More

Giant Palouse earthworm

Originally discovered in 1897, these giant worms were declared extinct in the 1980s until three specimens were unearthed, the most recent in 2005. Found in Eastern Washington state and parts of Idaho, these ghostly burrowers can dig down as deep as 15 feet, grow to as long as 3.3 feet in length, and are albino in appearance.
