where are the black footed ferrets on this list? they were thought to be extinct until a farm dog named shep found one, then that led to the unearthing of a colony of 18, that have been bred and now there are 500 black footed ferrets.

Where did you get this nonsense? We saw a black footed ferret in 1983 in Western Wyoming. They are still extremely rare because their favorite food, the prairie dog is being systematically exterminated in many states.

Perhaps instead of selling for meat many species including this rock rat, the meat-market merchants could be employed to uncover these animals for their preservation. They are, afterall, experienced hunters.

The forest owlet, or Blewitt's owl, is an eight-inch-high bird with big eyes and outsized beak, feet and talons. It is brown with distinctive bands on its wings. It was considered as extinct but was seen in 1998 after 113 years in India.
