My lord From the response coming out of Kentucky you'd think that they ARE all crazy polluters. "You wouldn't understand unless you lived here!" We don't want to understand you, neither do we need to. What goes on in your state by your businesses affects the rest of the world, and just because you can't figure out a healthy, un-destructive, and environmentally friendly way to make a living doesn't mean we want to understand or care. Just stop it, or your people will be remembered by history as.... More

Im from South Eastern, Ky... I am against coal mining in all forms, and I know many others that feel the same way that I do. The thing is, when you live in this area and mention that you aren't Pro-Coal, then you get threatened, cussed at, belittled, barraged, I mean it's like full on lynch mob if you say anything negative about the coal industry.

If you dont like Eastern Kentucky and the coal that it produces you should move and never come back!!! The people here are intelligent and caring people. This is the only way that some people have to make a living and raise their families. If we did not produce coal you would have no electricity.. until someone can come up with a better, cleaner way to produce such then you should keep your mouth shut!! Thank you very much and I love Eastern Kentucky and the intelligent people who live.... More

Personally I think if you don't like the mountains then get out. Why should someone who doesn't share your opinion get badgered? This is a free country the last I checked, and everyone has a right to share their opinions. If you don't believe that, then maybe you should go live in the Middle East, or some other nation that doesn't have freedom of speech?

the only toxic in east ky is the fact that we still have people with straight pipes into our streams!! mtn top removal is not polluting anything!!!!! you say we pollute when we chop of the mtn and dump in or near a stream!! BS, the run off from a hollow fill is the same damn runoff as if it was still on top of the mtn!! take your list and put it where the sun don't shine!!!

Everyone has their own opinion, here's mine.... unless you live here in Eastern KY, back off! To truly have your opinion even count you need to live in our area and live our way of life. How can you be from somewhere else and judge the way that one lives? Are you bored? Do you need something to do? How about concentrating on abused and homeless children or how about the poverty levels all over the world? But instead all that you can do is try to take our jobs, scholorships, etc and put us.... There are just as many people employed in Eastern KY growing marijuana who make a whole lot more money than a coal miner but they are arrested. Does the fact they make money make it OK. They just want to get the coal for as cheap as they can and leave the total wreckage behind.

I think we should work on getting our own engery in the US first before anything. With out the coal our gas prices will run sky high. Yes we want a cleaner Earth but we have to look at our needs at the moment as well. Where would we be without it. Less jobs higher engery cost. No good. If anything there should be more so America can stand on its own.

I can tell by your spelling, sentence structure, punctuation, and name-calling that you are angry. But could you pleas include reasoning and logic for why we are "hypocite's?"

Definition: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or opinions.

I can say that I have studied the process, read scientific journals, and thought critically about the mountain top removal strategy used. I believe it IS harmful to the environment. I am not acting in contradiction to my.... More
