Sadly, we should be alarmed at the condition the earth is in yet we continue to procreate and overpopulate this finite planet. Rather than our religious and government leaders addressing this reality, they ignore the core problem. Stop procreating humans and address the condition of the earth or your precious children will be condemned to experience a shorten lifetime of poorer quality. Some people seem to think the space picture is true...please use your minds!
To give you an idea, here's a quick estimate of how "polluted" space is...
4 million pounds = 1.8 billion grams

The problem with the seemingly small amount of space junk is that it is orbiting at very high velocities, up to several km/s. So what is a 5g bolt traveling at a speed of 7km/s? A: A bullet. Optical equipment and solar panels are especially sensitive because they can not be shielded from smaller debris. Finally, this is a problem that could become exponentially worse if left uncontrolled. That is because for every collision between 2 objects in space, there is the potential to create many more.... The film AVATAR was an Allegory, not pure fiction. Contrary to your post, most of the tree and nature filled pandora was removed by the early settlers to build and heat their homes, cultivate as farm land....
