AVATAR about THIS planet, not an "imaginary" one

The film AVATAR was an Allegory, not pure fiction. It shows what THIS Planet used to look like, especially the New World {Western Hemisphere} - like tree-and-nature-filled "Pandora" - until the greedy Corporations came in with strip-mining, clearcut logging and toxic pollution. When you get past the "love story" and extraordinary Special Effects, you see that "Pandora" is really EARTH; and the "Na'vi" are US {or our Ancestors and Native peoples}. The Corporations have NO SOCIAL VALUES EXCEPT.... More

15 worst sites - start a ww"shame" list

We can take pictures, talk and write about it. The money which was wasted by hundreds of politicians flying into Copenhagen attending the failed Climate Change talks would have gone some way to start clearing up some of the mess.
We need commitments from all Governments, to start cleaning up their own backyards, targeting one shameful site at a time.
Create good will and teach the kids everywhere to do the right thing and instill pride for a healthy planet.

the one thing that will work

Reading all these comments is a prime example why it is so hard to live together on this large globe... blatant consumerism, yep we have it.. a through away society, gottahaveit-gottahaveit-gottahaveit... We are way out of balance. Everyone knows what it takes to straighten all this out! Live with regard to nature.. reinstitute respect for life and our surroundings... we are reactive(so much it is often over the top) and never quite find the answer to the original problem but we create some.... instead of trying to pretend the pictures don't matter, WAKE UP!

There is actually a whole lot of space junk and not only does it threaten satellites and astronauts, it eventually falls to earth. SO- as one scientist argued, before it does that, these peices get broken up into smaller pieces- ummm, who said space isn't a place we live??? Moron! someday when it rains metal space shrapenel you might care. And the Pacific isn't a place you live?? You are incredibly selfish and ignorant. Do you eat seafood of any sort? The 15 Most Toxic Places to Live

There are still plenty of beautiful places to live too, (if you have ever been to the Rocky mountains, you know this) but unfortunately they are disappearing at an alarming rate. I think Mother Earth will be allright, she will heal once we're gone, meaning the human race. It's not the planet's survival we should fight for, it's our own! By destroying the Earth, we are slowly killing ourselves, and like so many on this board, I blame Western consumerism. Check this out, it explains it all:.... More

Photoshop cheapens others

The final photo makes me wonder about the other photos in this article - have they also been "photoshopped"? Too bad it ended this way, now the entire article hints at being a work of fiction instead of what it might have been - a call to action.

Are these comments for real?

Amazing how a grain of salt (just a dash of truth) can alter perceptions. The space image is truly hilarious, as are some of these bleeding heart comments. I, too, am concerned about the health of our world but find it even more shocking that people are as gullible as they are. They'll take the time to forge into "save the world" criticisms before doing any real research. No, folks this is not true research or journalism, just shock jock internet filler that apparently people buy into hook,.... More

It's True

If you've ever left your computer desk and travelled the world rather than seeing it on Google then you would see for yourself what the world is like. There are good places to hide the bad, maybe you should see for yourself as T have.

what if you can't?

Easy to say "leave your computer desk" but what if financial or physical limitations make this impossible? In some cases, the web is the only way for people to see the world - whether from a chair at a free library or if circumstances render them bedridden.

Live is a bad choice of words...

I appreciate the article, but no one could live in orbit or the north Pacific gyre regardless of pollution. Most polluted places would be a sufficient title. Just sayin...

Shocking Information

Watching the pictures of 15 most toxic places to live really make me shocked. Even I surprised to know that only 3 or 4 pics belong to third world countries, whereas others belongs to developed countries. I think it is the responsibility of United Nations and Environmental organizations to take actions for the restoration and conservation of environment.

God will destroy those who destroy the Earth

Genesis 2:15 specifically calls us "to watch over and care for" the bounty of the earth and its creatures. Scripture not only affirms this role, but warns that the earth is not ours to abuse, own, or dominate. The Bible clearly says in Revelation 11:18 that "God will destroy those who destroy the earth."

Destroyers beware. Take heed. It was by and for Christ that this earth was made, which means it is sinfully wrong -- it is a tragedy of enormous proportions -- to destroy, degrade or.... More

The information about the debris field should have been included with the image in the original article instead of buried in the comments section. What other data was "eggagerated" (or exaggerated, even)?

"Is it too big"- she said, of the probem, by Mother Earth

Great expose'.
With all the problems facing Mankind and the Planet you'd think that some philanthropic or otherwise industrious entrepreneur would create a vacuum system- making the effort to clean up the ocean- large yes.. but to at least keep it maintained at the current level IS doable. The waste plastic could be compressed into giant wafers on board, for ease of storage and disposal on land- sandwiched witin the landfill.

misuse of word "toxic"

The authors are misusing the word "toxic". Toxic refers to contamination by poisons or chemicals. Yes, deforestation in Haiti is a massive problem for the environment and the other plants and animals that (once) lived there, but it is not a toxic place.

Where are the most photos from??

The highest number of photos are from RUSSIA. And then countries whose population is WAY out of wack with its resources. Russia didn't have the know-how to deal with nuclear problems, but moved ahead anyway, hence the mess they now have. Some of the other countries have no governmental process for prevention of the pollution OR clean up.

I'm sure that all the residents near by could tell you that since the destructive mining of mountain top removal they've seen changes in the environment that directly affect them -- in the water and air. The forest that used to cover the a lot mountain tops in Appalachia was (and still is in some areas) what kept the air so clean.

Who lives in space?

The astronauts, of whom there are very few. How could you even include this as one of the 15 worst places to live. I don't think you thoroughly thought out your subject when you put your list together. And you were totally off the mark as listing the Appalacians in your list. Well the earth does not look like that because those pieces are incredibly enlarged so that it seems like we are completely engulfed which isn't true! As for the photos by not letting companies into some of these poor countries we don't let money and therefore they can't clean it! We are the cleanest and we are the wealthiest!
