Vapi!!! yes, i agree its the most polluted. i was in the core team, which commissioned this giant ETP. believe me, all effluent from industris are in one channerl, treated at one plant. now you know whats coming in, what you can do. still big steps taken to improve the plant effluent quality. lets give them a support. now i am not there, but still my heart is for that plant and place. there is a change now. i was associated with green belting that area with more than 25000 tree plantation..... What is the use of Gujarat being the most "DEVELOPED" state in India, that its CM boasts of. Ashamed of Industries and Industrialization that puts Nature and Life at serious risk. Ashamed of Gujarat's blind eye to all this.

Although It is absolutely horrible that these places exist(at mans doing). The thought that we have Appalachia on this list makes me sick to my stomach! We should be beyond all this. We are supposed to be the most advanced country in the world. But reality strikes hard that we are just the most arrogant.

It all seems so overwhelming! But we can all do our part though wherever we live. I feel like you can make an impact, however small, by just doing something to make our earth cleaner.

Heartbreaking and sickening. And it's all SO preventable.

Shame on those responsible.

I have a hard time believing that the Oil sands of northern Alberta, Canada aren't on this list. As a Canadian I am ashamed of our complacency on this issue.

Vapi, India

Sitting at the southern end of a 400-kilometer-long belt of industrial estates, the town of Vapi is a dumping place for chemicals of every kind. Levels of mercury in the groundwater are 96 times higher than safe levels, and heavy metals are present in the air and the local produce.
